![]() We typically find this method to be 2-3x faster than typing. ![]() Transcribe's fast & highly accurate dictation engine will convert your voice to text. So, you can simply listen to the audio in a headphone and repeat what you hear in your own voice. Transcribe using Dictation (respeaking) If your audio is not in one of our supported languages for auto-transcribe or is not clear enough for auto-transcribe, Transcribe also has a Dictation feature that converts voice spoken directly into your microphone into text using voice recognition. This allows you to switch on MAXQDA’s Transcription Mode, in which the windows you need for transcription are arranged optimally.Īutomatic transcription of audio (auto-transcribe) While 100% accurate automated-transcription is still a hard problem for computers to solve, technology has improved sufficiently in recent years for us to get close to 90% accuracy for clear well-recorded audio. Turning Transcription Mode on Right-click on the document and select the option Transcribe Audio File or Transcribe Video File. These text documents with their associated media file can be recognized by special symbols in the “Document System”: Transcripts of audio files feature a musical “note” and transcripts of video files a video camera. (How this works exactly and where MAXQDA stores the recordings, is explained in further detail.) When importing a recording, an empty text document is created in the “Document System”, to which the audio or video file is assigned and in which you can write the transcript. To get started with your first transcription in MAXQDA, you must first import the audio or video file by clicking Document in the Import tab. In nVivo there are also four windows but one of the windows serves solely for switching the content of another window so you have to do more clicks in order to see and get what you want.MAXQDA enables you to transcribe audio and video files in the Multimedia Browser (called the “Media Player” in older MAXQDA versions). Another interface advantage for MAXQDA is that you have four windows (can be turned on/off and layout of windows can be individualized) and majority of work is done in these four windows. nVivo has interface similar to that of MS Word that could be regarded as advantage but it has more icons and more text so, for me, it's more confusing. Personally, I regard MAXQDA more intuitive and easier to use because of its much more cleaner and simple interface (compared to nVivo). ![]() ![]() One thing that is actually different and very important is user interface as a factor that should not been taken lightly since it makes analysis a lot easier or hell. Generally, all the qualitative data analysis software offer pretty much the same functions - aggregating data, editing it, coding it, activating specific codes and data, assigning variables and activating data according to the specific variables, transcribing audio and video files, visualizing the coding tree, the hierarchy of codes, or the links of the codes, and more. I can add up my experience with MAXQDA (I'm using it approximately 3 years) and lightly compare it to nVivo, which I recently tried during one workshop dedicated to it, although I think there is nothing serious to be compared.
